I Wish I Was on a Boat!

This is just too good not to share with the world! This needs little to no explanation, just indulge yourselves for three minutes.

The First Great Song of 2009

Ok, I've been known for introducing my friends to all kinds of music that they would be destined to fall in love with two to three months in the future when their favorite radio station would be pumping (dumping?) it on them 24 times a day.

Not saying that this song is gonna do that, I'm just saying that maybe I can be that friend for you via this blog, assuming you don't have friends cool enough to do it for you. Perhaps your on the outs with a friend that would provide this service and just wanna use me for a couple weeks till y'all talk it out. Whatevs, not a concern of mine. Just dig into this fresh ass song.

For awhile, the artist formerly and currently (again) known as Prince had shrunk from the consciousness of the type of fan base that made him an icon in the 80s - the too cool for school twenty-somethings that loved to go out and party in every sense of the word. Today that same crowd is more often found out at the electro-hip-hop-hipster venue, definitely partying, but also definitely not partying to Prince unless its in some sick mashup. Well, I'm not gonna go as far as to say he'll be back on top with the cool kids again, but his new album has some potential to at least make him relevant to us again.

From the 5 songs that I've heard from his album, its clear that he's found that old school vibe in his guitar riffs again, and he's not afraid to update his sound to something a few levels closer to what we've heard a lot of in pop music recently (i.e. vocal experimentation a la Autotune...kinda, don't be so skeptical). Either way, the track A Colonized Mind is off the backboard! Its the best song I've heard from Prince since Diamonds & Pearls. Its definitely some baby-making material, so put this one as the first track on your Bump and Grind playlist and really impress that new chic you just met at the open mic/Obama inauguration party/Cool Kids concert.

So I'll say no more, except don't forget who brought you the freshness first...Mao!
